The year is 2094.
My name is Osamu, a newly graduated doctor who’s just been hired at Hôpital Nouvelle Vie here in Brussels.
I’d heard the rumors, of course — that that specific hospital also employed AI robots, not only as medical assistants but… for intimate companionship, depending on their programming. Sometimes to help lonely patients and provide health care at the same time… A “holistic treatment” as they like to say.
I thought I was prepared for anything.
But the moment I opened that door, I realized how wrong I was.

But first, I’d like to tell you how I ended up in that situation with cyborgs — or robot dolls, if you prefer — in the first place.
Personally, I’ve always been fascinated by the power of AI and its many uses. As a human paired with a robot, I can heal — and actually save — countless lives.
Throughout my medical training, I interacted with many kinds of robots: the nurses, the disease detectors, and the precision “robotic” hands…

But there’s one thing I’ve never admitted to anyone.
Among all the wonders of artificial intelligence, one field had my curiosity more than it should have — the creation of AI companions designed for emotional and physical connection.
I’ve always been the quiet one, uneasy around people. Self aware. It all seems too fake to be honest. Maybe that’s why I chose surgery — I can save lives, give my share to humanity, and still work in silence. No pretending, and no bullshit. My work and intentions are genuine and I don’t need to put on a mask other than the medical one, and it’s better this way. My patients are sedated, my colleagues busy with their own lives, human or robotic.
Still… there are nights when I catch myself wondering what it would be like to meet a synthetic being capable of understanding me completely. Shaping her into my emotional needs. Not just programmed empathy or good looks — something deeper.
I’ve worked alongside medical robots all my life. But those other models — the ones built for companionship — remain an unknown territory. Which is honestly scary and fascinating at the same time… And this deadly combination is impossible to ignore.

Some people might think this is a scary story — maybe even one fit for Halloween. But there’s a certain thrill, an adrenaline rush, in being able to program the dolls — to have control — and yet never fully know what might happen next.
You start to believe they have their own urges… and sometimes, those urges seem to call your name. This is what I heard from some patients at least…
But is it because you taught them to… or because they truly want you? I don’t have an answer to that… Yet.
